North Shore Oahu

Spend time at the Chinatown Sunday markets

Admission is free to the Laie Hawaii Temple Visitors' Center.
non-Mormons are not allowed inside temples, but public tours of the grounds outside and of the visitors' centers are available
Although Mormon doctrine prohibits non-Mormons from entering the temple proper, the public is welcome at the sounding grounds and Visitors’ Center. Visitors give this attraction high marks for the beauty and serenity of the lush grounds, as well as the impressive architecture of the temple

many shrimp trucks to choose from; we love the famous Giovanni’s or, just as tasty, Honos shrimp truck.
Kahuku is known for a plethora of shrimp trucks, but Giovanni's is by far the most famous
of the more well-known trucks, I enjoyed Romy’s.

, Kahuku aquaculture farms have been raising sweet and tasty shrimp and prawns. Today, various Kahuku shrimp trucks, farms, and food stands serve their buttery, garlicky seafood dishes at their food truck sites and rest stops—freshly cooked and harvested from their own farms—making shrimp a popular and delicious lunch option for visitors to the North Shore

have a bite at the world famous Fumi's Shrimp Shack!

One of my favorite things to do on Oahu was to head to the food trucks on the North shore and grab a plate of garlic prawns or a Mexican feast and watch the sun set over Shark’s Cove.

The best-known shrimp trucks are Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck, one of the island's original shrimp trucks, and Romy’s Kahuku Prawns, which allows diners to see shrimp and prawn farm pools right near the dinning tables. To satisfy your sweet tooth, pay a visit to Mastumoto’s Shave Ice for ice-cold flavored goodness or visit Ted’s Bakeryand have a slice of their famous chocolate and haupia (coconut) pie. You also can’t leave without facing your fear of heights and jumping off the famous Waimea Bay Beach rock.

cute clothing boutiques, souvenir shops and specialty stores, the Haleiwa stretch of Kamehameha Highway is home to some epic shopping.

SEE HONU (SEA TURTLES) AT ALI’I BEACH PARK

“The best place to check out turtles is on the Kaena Point side of Ali'i Beach Park. Forget about "Turtle Beach" at Laniakea. There are ten times more turtles available for viewing right on the beach and from the shore on the far west side of Ali'i Beach Park.”

My favorite spots to hang out with a turtle are Electric Beach and Waimea Bay
A MUST in Haleiwa is to cool of when legendary shave-ice from either Matsumoto’s or Aoki’s. Shave ice is finely shaved ice covered in homemade tropical juice like pineapple, guava and passion fruit. There are dozens of flavors to choose from and you can get ice-cream or sweet azuki beans on the bottom of the shave ice.
 Saturday Farmers Market in Waialua.
Café Haleiwa in his fan favorite song. But had he tried these, he might’ve ditched his homemade ones. The pancakes at this little funky café are light and fluffy and can be topped with blueberries or, well, more bananas. Breakfast is served Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and all day on Sunday. Oh, and the omelets and coffee are great, too.
While most folks cruising the North Shore stop by the more famous Ted’s Bakery near Sunset Beach for a slice of homemade pie, we suggest heading back to town through Wahiawa and pulling in at Sunny Side Bakery. This smallish, hard-to-find bakery makes some of the best pies we’ve tasted, including a double-crusted banana pie and an ever-popular blueberry cream pie. Slices are about $1.50 each. Trust us, the experience will be priceless.

One of the best spots to get a Haupia Pie after a day of beaching it on the north shore is Ted’s Bakery.

KEN'S FRESH FISH
Ken’s Fresh Fish offers fresh seafood to go, delivered straight from the fishing boat to your plate, with no middle man required. People are known to drive a long way to get the famous katsu fish plates, topped with special sauces and served up with rice and salad.
