Just down the road from the Two Medicine entrance is the grandest of the historic park lodges … the 1913 Glacier Park Lodge. When we entered, we raised our faces in wonder at the four story lobby built of immense Douglas fir timbers that run floor to ceiling (the logs were five to eight hundred years old when they were cut, still retain their bark and measure thirty-six to forty-two inches in diameter). When sitting in this impressively rustic space, we felt like picnickers in an old-growth grove.
LOOKING GLASS HWY 49
Before the Going-to-the-Sun Road opens over Logan Pass, the best scenic drive along the east side of Glacier Park is Looking Glass Road. This twisty road with gorgeous vistas, Highway 49, lies completely within the Blackfeet Reservation.
The Looking Glass Road gets its name from an historic Nez Perce leader, "Looking Glass," born in western Montana around 1830.

The Two Medicine Valley from Looking Glass Highway. Fall colors at its best!
Montana Highway 89 travels between East Glacier Park and Babb, Montana.
Locally it is called The Looking Glass Highway. Many visitors drive this road to access the Two Medicine Valley and those who are brave enough accept the challenge and drive between the Two Medicine Road Junction and Kiowa Junction.
Although sections of the Going-to-the-Sun Road closed this time of year, currently there are 39 miles of road still open to vehicle travel. Beautiful colors can be found traveling on some of the lower elevation roads, and up the North Fork road just outside the park. Autumn colors arrive in early September with vibrant orange Rocky Mountain maple and crimson huckleberries. Aspen, birch, and cottonwood set lower elevations aglow by late September. Western larch crowns the park’s lake and river corridors with a golden halo in mid- to late October.
TWO MEDICINE LAKE
Running Eagle Falls. This is a unique twin fall, the smaller upper fall combines with the lower main falls that pours out from a cave in the cliff wall really amazing affect.
